SUPPORT THEIR HEALTH:
Improving the nation’s health and well-being is a priority for the Y. At the Y, we help children and adults understand and value their health, and we nurture their well-being. We offer resources and guidance to maintain or improve physical activity, health and wellness. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.
Julie moved to Elgin to be with her mother whom had health issues and needed care. Not only was it important to Julie at this point to help her mother but also help herself. She needed to loose at least 90 pounds. Julie has had exposure to exercise in her past but it wasn’t effective. In April of this year, Julie Heard the Laura Dion-Jones show on MRMN and was inspired to join Laura’s Elgin’s Biggest Looser 12 week program here at our Y, which included free membership and classes throughout the 12 weeks. Julie had lost 30 pounds and had 62 more to go. At the end of the 12 weeks, Julie became an official paying Y member. Thanks to Julie’s open and helpful nature we have benefited not only with having a member but also a volunteer. “Even though I’m unemployed and must watch my finances carefully, I have to invest in myself. So that’s why I HAD to become a paying member of the Y. And I LOVE IT!”
A note from Julie…”Thank you YMCA staff. You’re wonderful. Thank you for helping me change my life FOREVER! God bless you all!”
Goal: Improving the nation’s health and well-being.
